How to prepare

Use a food-grade strainer bag (we sell these separately). Add powder to the bag and submerge in cool or lukewarm water. A solid starting ratio is roughly 30g powder to 250ml water. Knead and squeeze the bag continuously for 8 to 10 minutes — the water will turn an earthy brown. Strain into a bowl and serve.

Each shell is drunk in one go rather than sipped.

Serving suggestions

The earthy flavour is part of the ritual, but many drinkers prefer to chase or mix:

• Coconut water — classic Pacific-style pairing
• Cold coconut milk — for a richer, silkier brew
• Pineapple or orange juice — cuts through the earthiness
• Fresh ginger or lemon — refreshing chaser

Reseal after opening and store in a cool, dry place. Best before date printed on each pack.
