How to Make a Smooth, Strong Cup of Kava

The key is the right ratio and good kneading. You'll need kava powder, a strainer bag, a bowl and cool water. For a single serve, use about 30 g of powder to 250 ml of water.

A Straining Bag is a Must!

Put the powder in the bag and soak it in the water for a minute or two. Then knead and squeeze the bag for 8 to 10 minutes, until the water turns an earthy brown. Squeeze out every last drop, bin the root and drink it straight away. The longer and firmer you knead, the stronger the brew.

Time to Relax!

To make it stronger, use less water and more kava, or add a splash of coconut milk. You can also knead in two rounds, first with half the water and then with fresh water, and combine both. Drinking on an empty stomach gives the strongest effect.
